A picture taken on the porch steps about mid-August 2009. Here are several different tomato varieties that we were growing in Fortuna. We've been harvesting tomatoes since about the Fourth of July. From the left, Early Girl, the two bigger ones are Oregon Spring, and Stupice is on the right. The smaller ones right behind the quarters are Sun Gold. There might even be another variety mixed in here. Usually we let the tomatoes ripen completely on the vine for maximum sweetness, but the nights are cool and we are in a hurry, and if we bring them into the house they will ripen faster. But the Sun Gold (Sungold?) seldom makes it inside--it's amazing how they jump right from the plants into your mouth... We even eat 'em before they're fully ripe...
